HARD-NECK GARLIC
We are not certified organic but here are our growing methods upon which you can have direct knowledge of our growing practices.
First we are incorporating each year compost to increase the organic material in our beds. Mushroom soil is readily available in eastern Pennsylvania and is our source of compost. We also do cover cropping (winter rye, winter wheat and buckwheat) to add organic material to our soils. At planting we are using Fertrell’s Super N 4-2-4 and using fish emulsion during the growing season, both we believe would not be in conflict with organic standards. To combat the Allium Leaf Miner we are using row cover to exclude this pest.
